Update on production and delivery status of the Volla Tablet

ReportVolla Tablet has arrived. Final production steps initiated. The decisive milestone has been reached. The first batch of the Volla tablet has arrived at our warehouse from the production line as an intermediate product. The Volla Tiro pen was also delivered with the devices. We immediately initiated the final production steps in Remscheid.
We thank all supporters and pre-order customers for their trust, patience and financial support, which made this ambitious project possible in the first place. It began in spring 2023 with the conception and development of the hardware.
Next steps
Final production of the tablet
After engraving the back, the full firmware of the Volla Tablet will be installed at the industrial workplace set up at our site this year. Then the devices will be packaged and sealed. The packaging and printed materials are available from local suppliers, so there will be no further delay.
We plan to start with the firmware from January 6 and then to begin packaging and sealing a few days later. After that, the devices and accessories will immediately be sent to our distribution center.
Production status of the accessories
We expect that from January 6, the screen protector from our partner's production in Germany will also have been started, which still needs to be packaged. There is also progress for the back shells, the construction of which is nearing completion after several iterations of material, design and dimension tests. They will soon be able to go into production with our own resources, which we have built up this year.
The functional and quality tests of the keyboard took a little longer than expected, so we are now expecting the Golden Master at the beginning of next year, in order to then arrange for series production.
Software development status
After we didn't have the final board support package until November, our development team did everything they could to get Volla OS 14 and Ubuntu Touch on the Volla tablet. This week we have the release candidates for both systems, which are currently undergoing extensive testing by our quality assurance. The start sequence with the Volla logo and animation is being developed.
We will provide the multi-boot function with a system update. This also applies to the convenient support for installing and using desktop apps under Ubuntu Touch, which we will provide for the next major release, Ubuntu Touch Noble, based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
