December Update

Security update. Special promotion. Online Q&A session. 2021 was a great year for Volla. Thanks to your support, impulses and cooperation. Thousands of Volla Phones went to users in over 50 countries around the world, More than 60 developers use our hardware and numerous open source projects have been created for Volla smartphones. With the Volla Phone X, we delivered another model less than a year later than the first Volla Phone.

And it remains exciting. We have a lot planned for 2022.

At the end of the year, however, there are already new developments and a special promotion. We are offering up to 100 euros discount until 31.12.2021 for an order in our online store.

And if you are still looking for a last-minute gift, you can buy Volla vouchers with motifs of Volla moments in winter, for 10, 20, 50 and 100 euros.

New in the store are now practical table stands, through which you can also charge your Volla Phone or connect it to your PC or Mac.

If you haven't had the opportunity to hold and try out a volla Phone yourself, you can now do so in the Urbanbirds showroom in Stuttgart's Milano Shopping Center.

Volla OS

  • Volla OS users can now refresh their Volla Phone and Volla Phone X with a security update. At the same time, we have introduced an alternative service for accelerated positioning (Assisted GPS) that is independent of Google, and an own service for checking the Internet connection.
  • The Volla user interface with Springboard, Collections and Messages has also received new features. Users can reply directly with a text message in the view for the history of exchanged messages.
  • Frequently used websites can now be displayed in the overview like an app and thus also defined as short commands. To do this, simply call up the menu with the three dots in Fennec and select "Add to home screen". With a longer touch on the icon for the web page in the app overview, you can add the web page to the shortcuts of the red dot.

Ubuntu Touch

  • For Ubuntu Touch, there has been the OTA-20 update in the meantime. Currently, we are working on supporting the fingerprint sensor of the Volla Phone X. After we had to modernize the substructure of the system responsible for connecting the hardware for this, we are now preparing the system update.
  • There is also good news from the developers of the community project "Waydroid" for running Android apps under Ubuntu Touch. The apps already run smoothly with the early version including the camera function and the possibility to install apps from F-Droid, for example. Here, too, the year 2022 will be exciting.

Monthly online Q&A event

Every first Wednesday of the month we offer a live event at 6pm Central European Time where you can ask your questions about the Volla Phone and its operating systems. For this we invite a guest for a focus topic like Ubuntu Touch, mobile data security or VPN. The next focus topic will be secure emails. As a guest Bastian Blechschmidt from our partner StartMail will give a short introduction and answer questions.

Wednesday, January 5, 6 p.m. as a web conference with live chat.

Recordings of previous presentations can be found on our Youtube channel.

As always, we invite you to stay in touch with us and other users on Telegram, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and our forum. Every recommendation helps us to move the Volla project forward.

From December 20 to the end of the year we will go on vacation. However, we will be processing orders continuously until the 23rd. In the meantime, users can find answers to common questions on our website.

We wish all users, partners and interested parties a Merry Christmas, relaxing vacations and a good start into the New Year.
